Bach passions are a kind of spiritual oratorios, in their more powerful and deeper embodiment. The full score of the work in two parts, performed by soloists, orchestra and choir, was lost at the same time, in the 18th century. It consisted of recitations of the Gospel text according to Mark, chorales, arias and choirs. "Passion" has repeatedly tried to revive, based on the remaining disparate fragments.

The seventh reconstruction, proposed by composer Jörn Boysen in 2010, is recognized as the most authentic and bright option. Before becoming the head of the Hague ensemble of early music, Boyzen was a conductor and composer in the opera houses of Utrecht and Rotterdam, directed the Mosse Opera, worked with soloists and groups from different countries.

Before the Russian premiere in the Concert Hall. Arnold Katz, the work was performed only in three cities: London, Amsterdam and Berlin. A significant contribution to the organization of the outstanding event was made by the Goethe Institute Novosibirsk branch.
