Riga Tales by Latvian artist Anita Paegle in St. Petersburg Automatic translate
ST. PETERSBURG. Visitors to the Russian National Library, located on Sadovaya Street, got the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the Latvian artist Anita Paegle. The exhibition "Riga Tales", which opened on July 21 in the prints hall, was created thanks to the cooperation of the National Library of Latvia and the Latvian Academy of Arts.
Before the visitors of the exhibition will open an amazing world born of the imagination of the artist. Many characters inhabit it, among which there are no similar ones. In the fairy-tale world of Anita, letters come to life and flowers smile, the bizarre architecture of old Riga streets is adjacent to cunning city cats. On the colorful compositions of Anita Paegle, fairy-tale fairy-tale heroes dressed in intricate costumes come to life, and a round dance of usually invisible specks dances around.
The illustration of children’s books brought the Latvian artist fame not only at home. Anita Paegle is often invited to show her work outside Latvia. In the artist’s creative luggage there are 11 personal exhibitions, 25 books, decorated with her illustrations.
Many people remember that in 2007, the NLR successfully hosted its exhibition The Quiet Orchestra, organized by the National Art Museum of Latvia. In April 2013, the Latvian Bank issued a collectible one-latin coin, the graphic design of which was made by Anita Paegle.
Each of the artist’s compositions is distinguished by grace and sophistication. The painstaking work on his drawings turns the finished composition into a real event for the artist. Making the book, Anita perceives it as a whole - in it, the font and the vignettes on the pages should be connected with the illustrations.
This year, Anita Paegle’s work was awarded a high prize in her homeland - she was awarded the “Prize of the Academy of Fine Arts”.
