The Russian Academy of Arts presents a solo exhibition of works by the Kazan artist, Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan (named after Gabdulla Tukay) Firinat Khalikov. The exhibition is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the author. The exposition will include more than 80 paintings and graphic works of different years.
Firinat Gaptukhayevich Khalikov was born on August 28, 1957, a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and the Russian Federation, author and participant of more than 70 international, all-Russian and regional exhibition projects in Moscow, Budapest, Pisa, Istanbul, Helsinki, UNESCO headquarters in Paris and many others.
The artist’s works are in major museums in Russia, including the State Russian Museum, State Historical Museum, collections of the Ministry of Culture and the Russian Art Fund, and are included in school textbooks on the history of Russia, in the Great Soviet and Great Russian Encyclopedias.
Currently F.G. Khalikov is the head of the Creative workshops of the Russian Academy of Arts in Kazan.
The artist works in the technique of oil painting, gouache. Firinat Gaptukhaevich began as a landscape painter and portrait painter, working in line with the Russian school of realistic painting. Plein air landscapes depict the nature of central Russia, rural life. The seasons change, days gradually pass in the usual works.
In the series "The Dying Village" of 1982-93, the artist’s look is filled with lyrical nostalgia for the passing antiquity. Portraits from nature and genre paintings are distinguished by warmth and some detachment; those portrayed are immersed in themselves and do not enter into an active dialogue with the viewer.
At home F.G. Khalikov became famous after finding the central theme of his work — large-scale paintings, picturesque reconstructions dedicated to the national history of Tatarstan. The historical landscape, multi-figure compositions and genre scenes reflect the artist’s view of the history of Kazan, the life of famous historical characters and heroes of folk traditions, such as Ulu Mohammed, Tsarina Suyumbike, Shah Ali. The exposition presents a number of sketches for the program paintings "The Light of Kazan", "Departed. Ancient Kazan ”,“ Kazan Posad ”.
“About the artist Firinat Halikov, we can say that he made a symbolic immersion in eternity. Having descended into the khan’s Kazan closed by deceptive layers of the following centuries, he took out her portrait from the charred fragments of the past… and showed ancient Kazan from the moment it arose — to the heyday of the 16th century khanate. It turned out that the virtual city that he recreated aroused interest in the current audience, raising a thirst for living in it, decorating and protecting his face from gross fiction and oblivion… Not a single artist has ever completed a similar mission in the art of Tatarstan, ”wrote the art critic R. G. Shageeva
