Суриков Василий Иванович – Биография http://www.art-drawing.ru/biographies/brief-biographies/1421-vasily-surikov
THE SOUL OF RUSSIA
Impossible to imagine or conceive...
Through relics and monasteries,
It stands, radiant like amber,
Glorifying the ethereal dawns spirit.
And around it, a frenetic metropolis –
Your life, hidden within it.
You bought bread, but forgot propolis –
A spray of movement burns with intense heat.
The cells of life are filled with emptiness,
And TV is like a descent into an underground layer
Of existence – just as mundane as everyday life:
I have forgotten myself on the second level.
Gentle, it shimmers like amber silver,
It flows like gold from the heavens –
Yes, I dream of the soul of Russia,
And I am included in it as a part.
Victory and defeat are united,
Where one exists, so will the other.
All ideas are now stale –
I do not want to belong to any of them.
Impossible to imagine or conceive,
As Andreyev called it.
I want to praise its silence,
That which comes from the beginning.
Money builds towering structures,
Money confuses words today.
People make money, they are mad,
Forgetting that truth is right.
Gentle soul, embracing
Knowledge of the essence of destinies,
Of universal fate.
But it scares me,
That I cant afford bread again.
So, existing in contrasts,
You forget about the soul of the country.
Instead of a garden – in any given moment
We are involved by our own fault.
как красиво, душевно и правильно сказанно!

The subtext of the painting can be interpreted in several ways. The womans clasped hands and downcast eyes suggest a pose of prayer, supplication, or deep contemplation. This could imply a sense of piety, a moment of quiet reflection, or perhaps a plea for solace or intercession. The richness of her attire, particularly the headdress and embroidered sleeves, hints at a social status that is not overtly ostentatious but suggests a certain level of respectability or traditionality. The overall mood is one of quietude and perhaps vulnerability, inviting the viewer to consider the inner world of the subject. The title young ladies with folded hands might suggest a broader theme of feminine piety or societal roles associated with women in the era and cultural context depicted.
