To her left, a youthful figure clad in Roman armor holds a long spear and stands near a serpent coiled on the ground. This element introduces an allegorical layer, likely referencing the temptation of Adam and Eve or symbolizing victory over evil. His posture suggests readiness and vigilance.
On the opposite side of the central figures, two male figures are positioned. One is dressed in a brown monastic habit, holding a scroll inscribed with Latin text – “Mani Tva Fest Homin Avinib Omen.” The other figure wears elaborate ecclesiastical robes and a mitre, carrying a crozier as a symbol of his authority. Their gestures appear to be welcoming or presenting the central figures to the viewer.
The artist employed a restrained palette dominated by earth tones – browns, reds, and golds – contrasted with the blue background and the woman’s dark garments. The lighting is even and diffused, minimizing shadows and emphasizing the clarity of form. Facial expressions are subtle yet convey piety and solemnity.
The arrangement suggests a sacred gathering or conversation, likely intended to honor and venerate the central figures. The inclusion of the Roman soldier introduces a narrative element that expands upon the purely devotional function of the work. The scroll held by the monk adds another layer, potentially referencing specific theological doctrines or local patronage. Overall, the painting conveys a sense of reverence, authority, and spiritual significance through its formal composition and symbolic details.
