FOUR GARDENS
Four gardens of the spirit are given to us
In shades of perception –
So that we do not fall into a pit,
Love will open its embrace.
John is completely mystical,
The other three gardens are clearer to us.
Alas! – sins have woven a fog,
Stronger than any before.
Four gardens... and one...
Our thoughts are clouded.
But our heavenly Lord
Endures our numbers for now.

Through the mystical garden of John
How clear is earthly life to us?
A meadow of golden light,
A wave of dove-colored light.
Are there so few changes in the world?
They have all gone into materiality.
Inability to see more broadly
Torments us within the confines of earth.
The word that gave birth to life and reality,
Having bartered it for words, we live
A dead life – such a banality.
A break is acceptable for straightness.
And the infernal threat to us
Forgotten, we rush about, we sing...
* * *
Clouded thoughts on earth,
We have distorted the truths speech.
We are always rummaging in ashes,
Considering them to be golden.
Grass, forests, water... but what if
They say no less than Matthew?
You shudder, assuming,
Included in the general circle of life?
But it must be chipped off from the heart –
Is it possible? – stone flesh,
Then, with what soul is in your heart,
Will you touch true water,
Drink it – and go away from trouble,
And warm yourself with truth.

Mark is a series of shining heights,
Corresponding to the general gamut
Of not dying in a pit
Of our passions, other peoples generosity.
Mark is a malachite tide
Of waves, and greenish moss.
... but when will you approach that point?
How terrible is the roar of perspectives?
You – and not Mark, you are a person,
Whose long-lasting Thursday
Is ready to curse – you do not understand
The meaning of peculiar words,
Going by the power of foundations,
Whose light is always lost in everyday life.

(... the word is greenery, the word is jasper...)
Old Luke is working hard.
He will not give up on victory, but
That victory is so far away.
Here is Christ, he is рядом with them.
Dialogue with life is complicated.
Or has man been left behind, wretched?
Under the gaze of the future?
Peculiar pictures
Of breathing existence.
Reasons for despair
I see again, sinful me.
Better let my soul
Collect heavenly carmines!

The central figure, dressed in dark monastic robes, raises his right hand in what appears to be a gesture of benediction or teaching. He sits upon an elaborate throne adorned with books and other symbolic objects, suggesting scholarship and authority. To his left stands a bearded man clad in green and red garments, intently studying a large book held open before him. His posture conveys reverence and diligent study. On the right side of the central figure is another individual, distinguished by their ecclesiastical attire – a white mitre and flowing robes – holding a staff and an open book. Their gaze is directed towards the enthroned figure, indicating respect or perhaps seeking guidance.
The arrangement of figures suggests a hierarchical relationship. The female figure with the infant occupies the highest position, signifying divine authority and maternal protection. The central figure’s elevated placement and gesture reinforce his importance within this hierarchy. The two flanking figures are positioned at a lower level, acting as witnesses to or participants in the scenes unfolding significance.
The color palette is dominated by rich earth tones – browns, greens, and reds – contrasted with the white of the ecclesiastical garments and the luminous gold surrounding the upper figure. This contrast draws attention to key elements within the composition and enhances the sense of spiritual elevation. The use of light is particularly noteworthy; it illuminates the faces and robes of the figures, creating a sense of depth and realism while also contributing to the overall atmosphere of reverence and sanctity.
Subtly, the landscape visible through the architectural opening introduces an element of earthly reality into this otherwise idealized scene. It serves as a reminder of the world beyond the immediate spiritual realm, perhaps suggesting that the teachings or blessings emanating from the central figure are intended for application in everyday life. The presence of angels further reinforces the divine nature of the event depicted and underscores its significance within a religious context.
