Thus passes the glory of the world.
He drinks at the bar, habitually.
The boxer – overweight and aged.
And in a drunken stupor,
He sees a fight – he once fought, he knew how.
The archbishop is being buried –
A foul spirit constricts his chest.
Or is death merely a synonym for nothingness?
It cannot be!
The maids gaze is dry.
It cannot be... The music plays: Sic transit,
And the clouds drift by.
What will his destiny squander,
This teenager, still uncertain?
Everything passes, everything passes,
The old tune repeats.
I hear it in the park: a jarring sound,
Although famous.
Leals painting comes to mind,
So terrible – repulsive.
For if there are noble aspirations,
Though we cannot imagine their form.
Reality is important to me
To the extent that there is an
Unconventional embassy towards the future,
And this alone conveys its message.
You cannot comment Why?
A striking element is the dramatic use of chiaroscuro – the stark contrast between light and shadow. A concentrated beam illuminates the left side of her face, neck, and ear, while the right side recedes into deep darkness. This technique not only creates a sculptural effect, emphasizing the contours of her form, but also contributes to an atmosphere of quiet introspection. The highlights on the skin suggest a delicate texture, rendered with subtle gradations that avoid harshness.
The woman’s hair is styled in an elaborate updo, secured with what appears to be a decorative comb or clip, hinting at a certain social standing or attention to personal presentation. Small, understated earrings adorn her earlobe. Her lips are slightly parted, suggesting a moment of quiet contemplation or perhaps the beginning of speech.
The dark background serves as a void, isolating the figure and preventing any distraction from her presence. It also amplifies the luminosity of the illuminated areas, further emphasizing the play of light and shadow. The overall effect is one of restrained elegance and melancholic beauty.
Beyond the surface representation, theres an underlying sense of vulnerability conveyed through the downward gaze and the subdued expression. This could be interpreted as a reflection on inner thoughts or perhaps a quiet acceptance of circumstance. The absence of any surrounding context encourages viewers to project their own narratives onto the subject, fostering a personal connection with her silent presence.
