Artist and outstanding teacher Sergey Katkov - 100-year-old memory of a great soul!

To organize the exhibition, the opening of which took place on June 27, the National Art Museum of Belarus disturbed its funds and took out more than 80 paintings for the exhibition dedicated to the memory of the talented artist and brilliant Teacher - Sergey Petrovich Katkov.

It is rarely possible to meet an artist who puts the interests of his students above his own creativity. Are there many drawing teachers in a hurry to meet with the parents of talented students to persuade them not to interfere with their child’s development? How often famous people in Soviet times were ready to risk a career to take a group of children to Polotsk, paint Orthodox churches, and even arrange after that a large exhibition in the Minsk Palace of Pioneers? Therefore, the exhibition, organized by the museum, also contains collections from the private collection of Katkov’s daughter, as well as from the numerous works of his students. His work was a vivid reflection of the soul - therefore, from every picture depicting even the most typical Belarusian landscape, it blows with love for his native country and the world. In the canvases painted by him in a manner peculiar only to him, hundreds of corners of Belarus from 50-70 years are captured. Twentieth century. Thanks to his innovative approach to teaching students and sincere participation in the life of every child, dozens of his students have become brilliant artists! May Danzig, Vladimir Tovstik, Ninel Schastnaya, Vladimir Stelmashonok, Zoya Litvinova and many others took the path of art thanks to the blessing of Sergey Katkov.
