Masterpieces of Western European painting from the best museums of Ukraine in the Pushkin Museum im. A.S. Pushkin

On July 17, the significant exhibition “The Return of St. Luke” opened, consisting of hundreds of masterpieces of Western European painting from the 16th to 20th centuries, which found their home in major Ukrainian art museums. I take into account the rich history of Ukraine and the rather reverent attitude to painting by the local population, one should not be surprised that Kiev, Lviv, Odessa, Sevastopol, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Donetsk, Kharkov have beautiful museums with rich collections.

Ukraine, at the crossroads of trade routes, had the opportunity to feel not only the powerful influence of the Russian Empire, which included its territory, but also Western Europe. Educated people collected works of art and carefully kept their private collections. Of course, their time shook them, but so far in the funds you can find truly unique things. Some of which are presented at an exhibition in the museum dedicated to Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin.

This exhibition is a very symbolic event for the Pushkin Museum, because it allows you to restore the partnership relations with Ukrainian museums that were interrupted after the collapse of the USSR. The exposition consists of the best examples of Byzantine icons, paintings of the Renaissance, the New Age. All the largest art schools are represented - German, Austrian, Dutch, Dutch, French, etc. Many of the paintings are presented to the public for the first time, since they were kept in closed funds of Ukrainian museums. This scale of the exhibition makes it one of the most significant cultural events of the year for Russia and Ukraine!
