CAIRO. Yesterday, February 3, in the capital of Egypt, the opening of the annual international book fair. Saudi Arabia has been declared an honored guest of this year’s book forum. Cairo Book Fair 2015 is held under the motto "Culture and Renewal."
More than 850 publishers from 26 countries took part in the Egyptian literary forum. It is worth noting that due to the difficult political situation in the Middle East, the event was not held at all for several years. However, the number of participants this year suggests that the Cairo fair is once again becoming one of the largest literary events in the world.
This year, the Russian delegation traditionally arrived at the event in Cairo. It consists of an orientalist-Arabist Vladimir Belyakov and writer Natalie Kurtog. The program of the Russian delegation prepared for the exhibition includes master classes, lectures and round tables on the topic of Russian-Egyptian relations. According to orientalist Vladimir Belyakov, the Egyptian intelligentsia speaks of the need to translate Russian literature into Arabic, and Egyptian into Russian. Recall that in 2010 Russia was an honored guest of the Cairo International Book Forum.
The first fair in the capital of Egypt was held in 1969, then it was dedicated to the millennium from the day of the founding of Cairo. The initiator of the international book forum in Cairo was originally the Egyptian General Book Organization. Today, the Cairo fair is considered the second largest after the Frankfurt Book Forum and the largest in Arab society. Participants in this event are government agencies and private companies, book retailers from Egypt, as well as other countries of the world.
The 2015 International Book Fair in Cairo will run until February 12th.
