Modern technology in "Three Sisters" born in Japan

MOSCOW. Spectators who visited the School of Dramatic Art on October 4 at the play “Three Sisters” staged by the famous director from Japan Oriz Hirata got the opportunity to see not only the changed scene of events occurring in the life of Chekhov’s heroines. The director introduced a new generation of actors into the play - robots play the roles of a younger sister and a butler.

Therefore, the name of the play on the poster is as follows: “Three sisters. Android version. " This unusual production opens the festival "Japanese Autumn 2013", dedicated to the culture of Japan. With performances at the festival taking place in the Russian capital, the theater team “Seinendan” ends the world tour. The performance, where robots play along with ordinary actors, has already been seen by spectators in France, Spain, and Taiwan. Now the performance, using modern super technologies, was also seen by Muscovites.

Director Oriza Hirata has already used robots in his performances, however, in “Three Sisters” the most advanced artificial “actors” play on stage. At the same time, a cute little white housework looks like the character of a famous cartoon, but the younger sister, performed by the Geminoid F robot, is difficult to distinguish from a real actress from afar. This android has not only an appearance, but also a facial expression that corresponds to a human - even the movement of the lips is visible.

Initially, all the actions of the character of the play were played by a real actress, and then her movements, filmed in a video, were transferred to the robot’s memory as a program. The director claims that he is satisfied with the new members of his troupe - they do not forget the text, they do not argue with the director. True, there is no room for improvisation in such a performance - the entire action is painted literally in seconds.
