In the repertoire of the Perm Puppet Theater appeared the play "Thick Notebook", intended for adults

PERMIAN. Perm Puppet Theater on May 29 presented the audience a performance intended for an adult audience - “Thick Notebook”. Alexander Yanushkevich, artistic director of the puppet theater, embodied on stage the first part of the novel of the same name, written by the Hungarian writer Agota Kristof.

After the appearance of this novel, published in 1986, critics rated it as the most ruthless book written in the twentieth century. Despite the tragedy of the story described in the work, today it is read in thirty languages. Critics and readers enthusiastically spoke about this unusual piece.

The novel "Thick Notebook" is written in the form of diary entries of ten-year-old twin brothers who remained without parents during the war. At the same time, it is impossible to understand from the text where and in what years the events described in the diary of the children take place.

This ruthless story of ten-year-old boys forced to grow up during a conditional, but at the same time no less terrible war, was the first great prose work of Agota Christoph. A few years later, the writer published two more novels that complement the first book. They received the general name "The Trilogy of the Twins."

In the theater they say that the content of the new production is serious, so it was difficult to work on it. The heroes of The Thick Notebook are children, but the performance is intended for adult viewers. Most of the text of the novel is replaced by a visual series - thus, children’s knowledge of the world is more accurately displayed.

The directors of puppet theaters recently quite often stage performances for adults. The Perm Puppet Theater is already hosting several such productions. Now a new name has appeared in the theater’s repertoire - “Thick Notebook”, a performance showing the tragedy of the war through the eyes of children.
