Exhibition of works by Alan Kalmanov, Zaurbek Dzanagov and Madina Kalmanova. Painting and sculpture

An exhibition of works by Alan Kalmanov, Madina Kalmanova and Zaurbek Dzanagov opens in the exhibition halls of the Russian Academy of Arts (Moscow, Prechistenka 21). The exhibition presents about 40 paintings and sculptures by masters of North Ossetia.

Unlike each other, relying on the artistic language of their predecessors, they were able to discover the figurative language of national culture in a new way. Having received an academic education at art universities in Moscow and St. Petersburg, being heirs and successors of the traditions of artistic dynasties, all the masters, nevertheless, managed to find a recognizable, individual style in art.

Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Alan Kalmanov was born on November 3, 1964 in Vladikavkaz. He graduated from art school. B.V. Johanson, and then the St. Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin (workshop of A.A. Mylnikov).

A great role in the formation of A. Kalmanov as an artist was played by his father, an outstanding representative of the Ossetian school of painting, Honored Artist of the North Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, laureate of the State Prize of the North Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic named after K.L. Khetagurova Batr Kalmanov. Like his father, Alan Batrovich developed an independent artistic language, based on the national traditions of Ossetian art.

A.B. Kalmanov works mainly in chamber genres. An important place in the artist’s work is occupied by such landscapes as “Autumn in the Kurtati Gorge”, “Armenian Church” and others. It is in them that the artist’s mature style is manifested - the ability, through the visible specificity of the image, the accuracy of the detail to rise to generalizing, symbolic meanings. In 2004, the urban landscape “Evening. Ossetian Church ”was awarded the first prize at the Republican contest“ Finding a city ”.

Of particular importance to the master are paintings and memorial plastic dedicated to the Beslan tragedy. In 2007, he became the author of the project of a monument to employees of the special forces “Alpha”, “Vympel” and the Ministry of Emergencies, who died when the hostages were released at school No. 1 in Beslan.

Alan Kalmanov was widely recognized as a talented portrait painter - in his works a deep psychological interpretation of images is read, combined with brilliant skill in transmitting portrait similarities. In recent years, he created an extensive gallery of portraits that adorn the public buildings of Ossetia and Russia. The artist’s works are presented in the North Ossetian Art Museum named after M.S. Tuganov, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, as well as in private collections in Russia, USA, France, Spain and Germany.

Madina Kalmanova was born on June 20, 1958 in Vladikavkaz. She graduated from the St. Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin (workshop of V.M. Oreshnikov).

Along with her brother A. Kalmanov, Madina Batrovna is a vivid representative of the modern Ossetian school of painting. In her work, one can feel the influence of both national traditions and Western European fine art of the 20th century, which is expressed in experiments with form and color. Among the characteristic features of her painting can be called the use of local colors, rich color and the emphasized decorativeness of the works. Such are the works "Wheel of Sansara", "Signs", "Secret City" and others. The works of Madina Kalmanova are presented in the North Ossetian Art Museum. M. S. Tuganova, as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad.

Zaurbek Dzanagov was born on December 2, 1955 in Vladikavkaz. He was educated at the Moscow Art Institute. IN AND. Surikov (workshop of P.I. Bondarenko).

The sculptor is a representative of the famous Dzanagov art dynasty. He worthily continues the work of his father - the national artist of the RSFSR, the holder of state awards, the author of the monument to the 200th anniversary of the voluntary entry of Ossetia into Russia, Chermen Dzanagov.

In his work, Zaurbek Chermenovich turns to the traditional Ossetian archaic, presenting its individual variation. Demonstrating a logical interest in national traditions, as well as the art of Etruria, Crete and Mycenae, he gives the archaic form of sculpture a modern sound. Such works are “The Sacrifice of Abraham”, “The Wanderer”, “The Struggle of Symbols”, “Abrek”.

It is worth noting that Zaurbek Dzanagov is the author of the monument “The Tree of Sorrow” in Beslan and the memorial of Military Glory in Vladikavkaz, for which he was awarded the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation. His works are in the North Ossetian Art Museum. M.S. Tuganova, the State Tretyakov Gallery, as well as in private collections in Russia, Germany and Japan.
