Vermeer’s work "Glass of Wine" was painted in 1660 and is currently in the Berlin Picture Gallery in Germany. The artist depicts two acting male and female characters. The girl has emptied a vessel of wine, and the man next to her sets his sights on getting her drunk on alcohol. The roles to be played by the artist’s characters do not appear in any way. Perhaps it is a depiction of some intimate moment in the relationship of young people, a kind of manifestation of signs of attention. The canvas contains a variety of symbols, unnoticeable to the observer at a glance.
Description of the painting "Glass of Wine" by Jan Vermeer
Vermeer’s work "Glass of Wine" was painted in 1660 and is currently in the Berlin Picture Gallery in Germany.
The artist depicts two acting male and female characters. The girl has emptied a vessel of wine, and the man next to her sets his sights on getting her drunk on alcohol.
The roles to be played by the artist’s characters do not appear in any way. Perhaps it is a depiction of some intimate moment in the relationship of young people, a kind of manifestation of signs of attention.
The canvas contains a variety of symbols, unnoticeable to the observer at a glance. For example, the musical instrument lying on the chair - the lyre, the window stained-glass windows - they serve as a kind of sobriety, which makes the atmosphere more tense. The landscape on the wall, executed in dark colors, speaks of the mystery of the meeting of the girl and the young man. And the drink - wine is also used by the artist not by accident. The faces of the characters suggest that they are having a lively conversation, discussing something specific.
The atmosphere in the room is quite cozy, in some places even elegant, but the author depicts a minimum number of furniture and household items. Vermeer carefully prescribes every detail of the interior, emphasizing the perspective with the presence of tiles and window frames. The room, though containing a minimum of items, does not look empty. The outfits of the woman and man are elegant; the artist dresses his characters tastefully, emphasizing the idleness of the evening.
Jan Vermeer very skillfully conveyed the mystery of the date of two people, marked a clear image of intimacy, and in addition, managed to show the difficult situation in the relationship between the people depicted. The assumption here is that the author wanted to capture an event from his personal life on canvas.

Poets, love Painting...:
Only it can create beautiful stories
from the soul...
and pass them on to all ages!!
Do you remember from past centuries,
a beautiful portrait of a woman?
It was created again by her hands,
transformed into something new for its time.
Her eyes still gaze
at this world...,
as if yesterday you wanted
to speak with her, with her...!!

A glass of wine. Painting by Jan Vermeer.
Boris Khanin.
The lute played, a song rang out,
Passionate poems were recited.
A glass with a drink, for the beginning,
Usually foreshadowed sins.
Not everything here is clear. And the girl,
Having drained her glass of wine,
Does not want to agree at all
To what he offered her.
The painting is full of intrigue
In a meeting between young people.
There is twilight and glimmers of light.
A condition exists to gain control.
But before the girl is Virtue,
That sits on the windowsill.
She, no matter how you turn it, is a witness
To an intimate encounter in silence.
And the set square – a measuring tool
And the chain she holds in her hands,
Warn. The tempter
Is not sincere in his words.
He has a green cloak
And a hat. An imposing figure.
A slightly feigned smile.
He will convince anyone.
But the woman, though with a glass
Of wine held near her mouth,
Listens listlessly to the flatterers words.
And her lips are busy.
How well the shirt harmonizes
With the white pitcher on the table.
But it is evident that he made a mistake,
The trickster in his planned game.
In the painting you can see the perspective -
A mixture of floor tiles and a window.
Jan Vermeers painting
Is still full of mysteries.
You cannot comment Why?
The painting The Glass of Wine depicts a man and a woman in an interior setting. The man, wearing a hat and a cloak, stands beside a table, while the woman, in a vivid coral dress and white headdress, is seated. On the table, theres a glass of wine, a letter, and some fruit, suggesting a scene of leisure or social interaction. The background shows a tiled floor, a dark mirror, and stained glass in a window on the left.
The subtexts of this painting are open to interpretation, but common readings suggest themes of:
The ambiguity of the subjects expression and the precise nature of their relationship allows for multiple interpretations, making The Glass of Wine a work that continues to engage viewers with its subtle narrative and skilled execution.
