The right side depicts a markedly different reality. A gaunt figure lies prostrate at the feet of those feasting, seemingly begging for sustenance. Dogs cluster around him, their expressions suggesting both hunger and perhaps a degree of pity or shared suffering. The light falls differently on this group; it is less vibrant, more subdued, emphasizing their vulnerability and destitution.
The architectural setting further reinforces the division. The opulent scene unfolds within an elaborate interior with large windows offering glimpses of a distant landscape populated by figures seemingly engaged in revelry. This suggests a broader societal context of excess and indifference. In contrast, the figure on the ground is positioned close to the viewer, creating a sense of immediacy and emphasizing his plight.
