Как же нетипично для Мане! Импрессионисты не писали картины на божественные сюжеты, т. к. изображали именно реальный мир.
Но Мане, если можно так сказать – наполовину художник-реалист, наполовину импрессионист.

One angel, on the viewers left, is dressed in a dark red garment and has dark wings. This angel leans forward, resting her forehead on her hand, conveying a sense of sorrow or grief. The other angel, on the right, wears an orange robe and has vibrant blue wings. This angels gaze is directed at Christ with a serene yet knowing expression, her hand gently supporting Christs shoulder.
The composition is somber, emphasizing the stillness and finality of death. In the foreground, scattered skulls and possibly some plants add to the morbid atmosphere and symbolize mortality. The lighting is dramatic, highlighting Christs body and the figures of the angels against a dark, indistinct background, which intensifies the emotional weight of the scene.
The subtexts of the painting revolve around themes of death, divine sacrifice, grief, and possibly the transition to resurrection. The presence of the angels signifies divine presence and comfort in the face of Christs ultimate sacrifice. The open eyes of Christ, rather than closed in peaceful sleep, can be interpreted in various ways – perhaps suggesting a lingering consciousness, a foreshadowing of resurrection, or a profound anguish. The somber tones and symbols of mortality underscore the reality of Christs human death, while the angelic figures offer a spiritual dimension, hinting at something beyond death.
