Description of Isaac Levitan’s painting "Evening

Isaac Levitan’s painting, An Evening, is a rather early work of his. The painting has a rather sad look, having the moral background of a period in Levitan’s life, when in his distant youth, his fate was such that he became an orphan.

This will be fully reflected in the colors and color scheme, both this and other paintings written afterwards. Its interesting coloring, even in spite of the obviously monotonous color scheme is not much of a splash of colors and colors, like even a small accent, dramatic, but meanwhile and the grandeur of this picture.

Of course, the canvas is dominated by the sad atmosphere of the passing day, the sun has rolled up over the horizon, and evening is the main idea of the painting. But complementing its insignificant at first glance nuances of space, and even the church in the background, makes the image of the picture more holistic. A strip of clouds rolls over the sky, as if covering it with a warm blanket and preparing it for sleep.

The fog rolls over the river, as if it were a soft pillow rolling up to both banks. The hillside is sheltered by plenty of green-yellow grass and trees. The silent stillness and tranquility makes you think of high things when looking at this landscape. The well-chosen angle allows us to consider, in fact, quite a large space, and encompass the entire outskirts with our gaze.

A lonely but rather large house stands right by the riverbank, most likely a building somehow related to that cathedral a little further away. Unspoiled and unspoiled land, involuntarily beckons the eye.

Completely calm river, too, prepares for sleep, without even the slightest ripple on its surface, absolute calm. The tranquility of the river, transmitted to all nature and covers the surrounding area, thereby transmitting these feelings to the viewer.
