The artist placed several trees strategically along the crest of the hill. They are not depicted with meticulous detail but rather as masses of foliage, their forms softened by the surrounding light and atmosphere. Their placement contributes to a feeling of enclosure, hinting at a boundary or limit. The sky occupies a significant portion of the composition; it is filled with turbulent clouds, painted in broad strokes of grey, blue, and white.
