In the past, I worked as an editor and translator for the publishing houses Progress and Khudozhestvennaya Literatura. And on this website, no matter how hard I try to provide accurate titles for paintings and spell the names of their authors correctly, there seems to be some kind of force that gladly reverts my changes, often without even realizing what its doing. This is unfortunate, dear colleagues.

To her right stands a man clad in vibrant red robes, holding aloft what appears to be a light source – a candle or lantern – casting a warm glow upon the scene. His posture is one of dignified presentation, as if introducing this moment to those present. Several figures are clustered around him, their faces partially obscured by shadow and distance, yet contributing to the sense of communal witnessing.
Above them, two winged beings hover, bathed in an ethereal light emanating from a distant landscape visible through an opening in the structure they occupy. This landscape is rendered with a degree of detail suggesting a connection between the earthly realm and something beyond. The presence of animals – a brown cow and what appears to be an ox – further anchors the scene within a rural setting, evoking associations with humility and simplicity.
The artist’s use of chiaroscuro – the contrast between light and dark – is particularly striking.
