Art in Every Wing of the Wing - Photo Exhibition at the Moscow Eye Gallery

On August 7, the opening of the exhibition “Birds” was held, dedicated to the symbolic role of birds in the cultural tradition of different peoples of the world. Fourteen world-famous photographers presented their works, revealing all the images that were generated by the inspiration that encompasses a person who watches the magnificent flight of the bird.

Mythological ideas originally imposed on birds the role of guides to the other world, since they soar between the world of people and the world of gods. The eagle was placed against Prometheus in order to torment him forever for the theft of the divine fire of knowledge. The dove found for Noah the long-awaited land after the flood.

The Firebird in Russian fairy tales possessed magical properties and could, like its eastern counterpart, Phoenix, heal seriously ill people with its tears. The stork in the Slavic countries is traditionally credited with the functions of the keeper of the hearth, the power of "bringing babies." And, of course, do not forget about the owls, who bring letters from their Hogwarts in the Harry Potter novels. And in most of the great poems, birds are symbols of freedom of the soul, free to soar over the ordinary and enjoy life.

Therefore, art photographs taken by such masters as Harry Gruyer, Rebecca Noris, Alexander Abaz, Dmitry Baltermants, Sofia Tatarinova, bear the imprint of past centuries. But at the same time they vividly reflect modern reality. In this, the main role of birds is revealed - the epochs are changing, and the art of wing flapping remains unchanged.
