"Galev Gallery" for the first time in Moscow opened an exhibition of Pavel Kondratyev

MOSCOW. Since April 24th, a personal exhibition of Leningrad artist Pavel Kondratyev has been opened at Galev Gallery, located in Bolshoi Kozikhinsky Lane. Pavel Mikhailovich passed away in 1985, since the 60s the artist had a significant number of his students and followers.

Among the Leningrad painters they were known as the “Kondratiev Circle”, where the artist was the undisputed leader. After the first personal exhibition of Kondratiev, held in 1981 at the Writers’ House, it became obvious that the artist plays an important role in the further development of pictorial and graphic art.

Despite the popularity of the works of Pavel Kondratiev among connoisseurs in St. Petersburg, in Moscow his work was not very familiar. The exhibition, which opened in Galev Gallery, was the first show of the artist’s skill to the capital’s public. The exhibition includes works from collections of Moscow and St. Petersburg collectors, as well as from the fund of the Art Museum of Yaroslavl.

A monograph dedicated to the artist’s work was published by the opening of the personal exhibition. For its preparation, archival materials of many museums of the world were used, most of which are published for the first time. The monograph details the work of Kondratiev in the pre-war and wartime periods.

The organizers of the exhibition designed a separate stand, which presented the works of Pavel Kondratiev wartime. It housed watercolors and pencil sketches made by the artist in besieged Leningrad, where Kondratyev served in the air, masking aircraft. In his spare time from the service, the artist created a blockade record.

The exhibition of the student Malevich, Filonov and Matyushin is available for guests until August 1st.
