In the house-museum of Kondraty Belov, the artist’s anniversary was marked by the opening of the exhibition

OMSK. The Kondraty Belov Museum is waiting for visitors to the exhibition, opened on March 22, dedicated to the anniversary of the Master. Museum workers celebrate 115 years since the birth of a national artist who deserves the title of “patriarch of Siberian painting. This year, the organizers of the exhibition decided to show museum visitors not only the well-known works of Kondraty Belov.

The exposition housed the artist’s work, which had not participated in exhibitions for a long time. Therefore, before some visitors to the museum, paintings unfamiliar to them will appear. Most visitors to the Belov Museum are well aware of the artist’s work in the epic landscape genre. These paintings were given an honorable place in the exposition. However, many viewers will be interested to get acquainted with graphic works, where Kondraty Belov portrayed various episodes of the Civil War taking place on the territory of Siberia.

The artist was not only a witness to these events, but also a participant. This detail of the biography of Kondraty Belov prevented him from receiving the most prestigious award in those years, the Stalin Prize, for his painting “Lesplav on Irtysh”. The picture, which traveled around the world as part of exhibitions, was refused a prize because its author served in the Kolchak army.

Thanks to the canvases written by Belov, one can see the past of Omsk. The artist kept many of the buildings related to architectural monuments in his paintings. The building, where the Master’s Museum is now located, is preserved by Belov’s cares. First, he chose it as a workshop, and then he turned into a house museum.
