The Archival Service of the Republic of Crimea and the Irkutsk Art Museum agreed on cooperation

The head of the State Archival Service of the Republic of Crimea Oleg Lobov visited the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum. At a meeting with the Director General of the museum, Alexander Gimelshtein, the question was raised of the search for the burial of V.P. Sukacheva. Recall that the mayor, philanthropist and founder of the art gallery, which gave rise to the Irkutsk Art Museum, died in 1920 in Bakhchisarai. This is evidenced by records in the Sukachev family archive, but the exact burial place is not known. For five years, museum staff have been trying to clarify this issue by working with volunteers and public organizations in Crimea, but so far no information has been found. According to Oleg Lobov, the archival service of the Republic of Crimea is ready to join in this work. Metric books that are stored in the archive will be analyzed, as well as burial schemes at local monasteries will be studied. According to one hypothesis, Vladimir Platonovich Sukachev could be buried in Bakhchisarai on the territory of the Holy Assumption Monastery, where at the beginning of the last century there was a church of St. Innocent of Irkutsk.

Also Oleg Lobov became interested in the possibility of holding Irkutsk within the walls of V.P. Sukachev exhibition dedicated to A.P. Chekhov. Now it is taking place on Sakhalin. At the exhibition organized by A.P. House-Museum Chekhov in Yalta, presented dozens of items belonging to the great Russian writer, which he took with him on a trip to Sakhalin or acquired on the way back. Among the exhibits are Chekhov’s notebook, a Chinese teapot, a thermos basket and many other items. The famous leather coat that the writer wore during a Sakhalin trip was specially restored. Until the end of 2015, the exhibition will be on Sakhalin, after which, according to Oleg Lobov, she could move to Irkutsk, since Chekhov was visiting our city on the way to Sakhalin. If it is possible to solve organizational issues, then already at the beginning of next year the Irkutsk citizens will be able to see the personal belongings of the classic in the estate of V.P. Sukachev.
