"Painting after painting" - under this name, the organizers of the exhibition, which opened on November 28 in the Raphael Hall of the Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts, presented the work of contemporary artists of St. Petersburg. The exhibition brings together twenty artists, many of whom are teachers and former students of the Institute. Repin.

With this exhibition, the North-West branch of the NCCA continues the project devoted to the study of trends in the development of contemporary art in St. Petersburg. The aim of the project is to show the general public the work of St. Petersburg artists, whose work is born within the framework of modern easel art. The exposition includes more than 30 works representing a section of the works of leading St. Petersburg artists over the past 10-15 years.

The name of the exhibition is provocative, it makes you wonder what a modern picture is. In the twenties, Malevich claimed that painting had long been obsolete. Postmodernism, which appeared in the 70s, filled the galleries with video art and installations. Many fans of modern art began to believe that traditional painting is a place only in classical museums.

However, the 21st century brought a new trend - paintings are becoming relevant again. With the opening of this exhibition, the NCCA invites visitors to solve the riddle - what has gained relevance - painting or painting. The curator of the exhibition, artist Elena Gubanova, claims that today pictoriality is supplanted by pictoriality. If earlier an artist, doing his work, calculated every little thing, now he is attracted to random things.
