MOSCOW. The Moscow Museum presented an exhibition of paintings created by Nikolai Lakov, a famous Soviet artist. In the 20-30 years, Lakov lived in Dagestan, where the artist was sent to create studies and sketches for future paintings on the construction of socialism in the republic.
Over the years, the artist visited various parts of Dagestan, where he painted a huge number of landscapes, portraits and graphic sketches. At this time, his special passion was the creation of images of dancers, among whom were artists of folk ensembles, as well as ordinary Dagestanis. In addition to painting, Nikolai Lakov tried his hand at creating sculptures, the material for which served as papier-mâché.
Returning to the capital, in 1948-1955, Nikolai Lakov created stage costumes for the members of the ensemble Igor Moiseev, where he worked as the main artist. However, the years spent by the artist in Dagestan, the republic that conquered his heart forever, forced Nikolai Lakov to return to the places where he lived for about two decades.
Since 1958, the painter has been working in the Lezginka ensemble, becoming his main artist. The artists of the ensemble performed in stage costumes made according to the drawings of Nikolai Lakov. At the same time, the artist created a magnificent series of works known as “Dances of the peoples of Dagestan”.
Dagestan, represented in the paintings of Nikolai Lakov, is diverse. On his canvases are majestic mountains and mountain villages, lakes of extraordinary beauty and ancient fortresses. And next to them are portraits of Dagestanis. All the works included in the exhibition are presented from the collection of the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts. Costumes of dancers of the ensemble “Lezginka” complete the exhibition.
The exhibition is open on June 26.
