Poland releases Girl with Ermine on tour

The most valuable masterpiece stored in Poland - The Girl with an Ermine by Leonardo Da Vinci, has received permission to travel to Spain, Germany and the UK.

This step was taken after months of discussions between experts in the field of art of the Ministry of Culture of Poland on whether it is possible to allow a 15th-century painting to leave the country. Last week, conservationists warned that the canvas could be damaged during transportation. However, the Polish owners still want the picture shown abroad.

The owners claim on their website that this will enhance Poland’s prestige by raising funds to the museum in Krakow, where the masterpiece is stored.

The decision made this week means that the painting will be exhibited in museums in Madrid (in May), in Berlin (in August) and in London (in November).
