Air Force Ukraine Announces Winners of the Book of the Year 2014 Award

KIEV. According to the results of two qualifying rounds in the nomination "Children’s Book of the Year 2014" won the book by Yekaterina Shtanko "Dragons, go!"

The fairy tale story “Dragons, go ahead!” Tells the story of a schoolboy who is fond of biology and accidentally raised a real dragon, which later changes the usual life of a teenager. In this book, young readers will feel like detectives and plunge into the world of adventure and fantasy.

The honorary title “Book of the Year 2014” was received by Sophia Andrukhovich’s novel “Felix Austria”. The book reveals complex topics about freedom of choice and dependence, about sacrifice and devotion, about relations between women and countries, languages and nations, about life and taste. Events unfold in the late XIX - early XX century in the Austrian city of Stanislav. Against the background of that era, which is increasingly gaining myths about idyllic life, a story is told about the fate of two women, inextricably linked.

The novel by Sergey Zhadan “Voroshilovgrad”, which in 2010 was the “Book of the Air Force Year”, this year was awarded the most valuable award “Book of the Air Force Decade”. Artem Liss, Chairman of the BBC World Service European Department, noted that “Zhadan’s book has a very valuable property to acquire new meanings over time when you reread it in a world that has changed.” As other members of the jury noted, Voroshilovgrad received the award not for political correctness or relevance, but for its outstanding artistic qualities.

All winners of the "Book of the Year 2014" award received a cash reward of 1 thousand pounds in hryvnia equivalent.
