“Up the stairs leading down” is with us again. Hi teacher!

MOSCOW. A new edition of the famous Bel Kaufman novel without cuts has been released.

"Up the Staircase…" (Up the Down Staircase) was written by Bel Kaufman (Bel Kaufman) more than 50 years ago. The theme chosen by Bel for his first large work became the means of Makropoulos, which provided her with almost immortality. With age, like decent wine, a book only gets better. Including due to the return of fragments of the text seized for censorship reasons in Soviet times, and the correction of some factual inaccuracies.

The main treasure received by Bella Koifman (the real name of the writer) from her great grandfather, Sholem Aleichem, is a literary gift, his warm humor, for which his books were so loved by readers. However, writing did not appear on Bel’s long-term plans. She was much more attracted to her teaching career. By her own admission, she was a wonderful English teacher. Like the heroine of her semi-autobiographical book, Miss Barrett, she sought to see personalities in her students, establish contact with them, just smile once again. It is such devotees of their noble profession that enthusiasts understand that children do not need senseless suppression, but understanding and support.

Employment at school left Bel only time to create small stories, occasionally sent to magazines. One of them, at the insistence of a visionary editor, formed the basis of the future bestseller. The realities of school life, causing a smile, laughter, bright sadness and even tears, are very recognizable in every country. So, there is hope that after reading this book someone will come to help in time. And somewhere, it will be a little easier to cope with the daily routine of selfless and not stiff teachers.
