Poetry that can be seen. Drawings of Silver Age poets

MOSCOW. The Boslen Publishing House has published the third book in the series Writers Draw.

The ingenious "multi-station" Leonardo da Vinci considered painting poetry that can be seen, and poetry - painting that can be heard. The man who left his mark not only in painting, engineering, science and medicine, was also the author of humorous stories, fables, aphorisms, treatises on painting and chess and could rightly identify these types of art. The poets of the Silver Age, whose work is discussed in the book of Mikhail Shaposhnikov “Soloviev. Bryusov. Voloshin. Block. White. Nomads of beauty ”, did not reach the heights of titan of the Renaissance in painting. But, like him, they felt the need for different methods of self-expression, creating visual images of their works with the help of mascara, pencil and paints.

The most successful artist among the writers presented in the book can be called Voloshin, whose landscapes invariably arouse admiration among art lovers. Despite the fact that his main universities in the visual arts were drawing lessons, which he was given in Paris by the famous artist and graphic artist Elizaveta Kruglikova. One of the sections of the book is dedicated to the work of the poetess Poliksen Solovyova-Allegro, the sister of the philosopher Vladimir Solovyov. Her teachers at the School of Painting and Architecture, where she went to classes for some time, were Vasily Polenov and Illarion Pryanishnikov. Unconditional interest among readers will be caused by cartoons and drawings of Blok, Bryusov and Bely. They not only demonstrate yet another facet of the talent of the poets of the Silver Age, but also become a kind of projection of their inner “I”.

Nomads of Beauty is the third book in the series Writers Draw. The first two were devoted to the palette of talents of the classics of English literature (Chesterton, Thackeray, Kipling, Lear) and the versatility of the gifts of Dostoevsky, Gogol, Turgenev. The foreword to them was written by philologist, expert of UNESCO, the legendary director of the library of foreign literature Ekaterina Genieva.
