Brother in song trouble. The opening of the Yesenin Center in Moscow

MOSCOW. Yesenin Center opened in the poet’s museum in Chernyshevsky Lane.

Yesenin’s father lived in house number 24 on Bolshoi Strochenovskiy Lane for many years, and until 1918, Sergei Alexandrovich himself. In 1995, a memorial museum of the poet was opened in this building. After 9 years, a bas-relief with a portrait of Yesenin appeared on a historic building in 4 Chernyshevsky Lane. The former owner of the estate, designed by architect Geppener was Karl Augustovich Meyer, a successful entrepreneur, the owner of a chain of stores selling galoshes. At the beginning of the last century, classes of the Surikov literary circle were regularly held in the outbuilding of the house. A frequent guest of creative “gatherings” in 1912 was Sergei Yesenin.

After the reconstruction, Meyer’s estate opened its doors in the status of a branch of the main exposition. On October 3, not only the poet’s 122nd birthday was celebrated within these walls, but also the birth of the Yesenin Center. His concept involves the holding of exhibitions, performances, creative evenings. The organizers plan to turn the center into an accessible platform for talented poets from different regions, to give them the opportunity to express themselves in full voice. Museum visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the history of Russian literature.

On the poet’s birthday, the presentation of the Moscow Art Theater actor Anatoly Bely’s film kinopoetry project and the opening of the Esenin NEW. Earlier there was an evening in memory of Sergei Kuryokhin. For the cinephiles, a screening of the Dzigi Vertov’s “Eleventh” tape was organized. The film, almost unknown to the general public, was published on physical media only at the end of the first decade of the 21st century.

It is still difficult to talk about the attitude of writers of the modern formation to a new cultural center. Will it be able to become a platform for free expression, a space free from censorship, it will become clear a little later. Will the true version of the death of the poet named Tsvetaeva’s brother by song trouble in the poetic prophecy of 1926 be voiced within these walls, ridiculous myths are dispelled, archival documents that shed light on riddles and inconsistencies are announced? Time will tell.
