KAZAN. In the capital of Tatarstan, on the birthday of the composer Sofia Gubaidulina, the VI International Festival of her name opened.

For a quarter of a century, Sofia Asgatovna Gubaidulina has been living in the German town of Appen, but she has not lost ties with Russia. The annual Concordia contemporary music festivals (artistic director Alexander Sladkovsky) dedicated to her, pianist competitions of her name held in Kazan are an occasion to return here regularly. Slow walks through the woods, the measured rhythm of life in a quiet village is an inspiring peace after the senseless prohibitions, distributions and the “black mark” received at the VI Congress of Composers, with which there is not a single foot on TV and radio. The slogan "Music belongs to the people" cut off the avant-garde, complex, unusual. The "unenviable company" - Gubaidulin, Denisov, Schnittke, Kneifel, Artyomov, Firsov, Suslin, Smirnov was squeezed out of the country. Gubaidulina chose music, freedom, and the opportunity to go her own wrong path, as Shostakovich advised her.

The 6th Gubaidulina Festival of Contemporary Music, dedicated to her 85th birthday, opened on October 24th with the dramatic oratorio of Swiss-French composer Arthur Honegger, Jeanne d’Arc au bucher, based on the plot of Claudel’s mystical poem. On the stage of the S. Saidashev State Concert Hall, the Academic Choir performed by Lev Kontorovich, famous opera singers and dramatic actors. Two days later, the production was presented to the metropolitan audience in the Tchaikovsky Hall. The oratorio is dedicated to the actress and dancer Ide Rubinstein. The festival runs until November 5th. Ahead of a few unforgettable evenings.
