Fateful meeting on Nevsky Prospect. On the appointment of a new conductor of the Novosibirsk Symphony Academic Orchestra

NOVOSIBIRSK. Gintaras Rinkevicius completed a ten-year collaboration with a symphony orchestra.

The Academic Symphony Orchestra is the undoubted pride of the capital of Siberia, one of the best groups in Russia and abroad. Tours, accompanied by constant applause, in the reviews - only excellent epithets: “sensation”, “shock”, “fireworks”, “brilliantly”. The founder of the orchestra, an extra-class conductor, Arnold Katz, considered the daily torment of climbing as the main thing. He appreciated and nurtured obsession with creativity and sincerity in musicians. Arnold Mikhailovich stood at the helm of the half-century orchestra he created in 1956 and died during a tour in Beijing in January 2007.

The level of professionalism of the Novosibirsk Symphony and the margin of safety laid down by the master allowed the team to survive after the loss by working on temporary sites. Without lowering the bar, without losing obsession. At that moment, the Lithuanian conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius headed the orchestra. New experience, repertoire, achievements. A busy touring life, the status of the basic collective of the Trans-Siberian Art Festival, a successful European tour in the year of the 60th anniversary. Katz’s successor has earned public acclaim, with him the orchestra finally found a permanent home. Rinkevicius’ ten-year contract expired in early summer to the sounds of the Tchaikovsky Symphony V. The last concert was held on June 8 as part of subscription number 1.

During the Great Patriotic War, the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Evgeny Mravinsky was evacuated to Novosibirsk. Kurt Sanderling, who emigrated from Germany, was appointed one of the conductors of this group in 1941. In Novosibirsk, his son Thomas (Thomas Sanderling) was born.

In 1956, the fateful meeting of Sunderling and Katz took place in Leningrad, which drastically changed the life of the latter. A few days after their conversation about creating a symphony orchestra in Novosibirsk, Arnold Mikhailovich was appointed chief conductor of the new collective. Thomas continued the family dynasty, collaborated with the best orchestras in the world, well-known record companies. At the invitation of Katz, and subsequently Rinkevichusa, he repeatedly came to the capital of Siberia.
