The story told in Old Fashioned Comedy still excites people

IRKUTSK. On December 27, the N.P. Okhlopkov Drama Theater presented the audience with the premiere of the play “Old-Fashioned Comedy”. The play was written by Alexei Arbuzov in 1975, it was an adornment of many theatrical stages, but to this day, it makes viewers laugh at situations that arise on the stage and cry from sympathy for the heroes of the play, who do not understand how much they are necessary for each other.

After watching the play “Old-Fashioned Comedy”, the audience never remains indifferent, because a beautiful love story between two elderly people happens at all times, such a play cannot be tied to any particular time.

The heroes of the play are people completely different in character and temperament. The former actress, with her eccentricity, violates the calm, measured rhythm of life of the head physician of the sanatorium, in which she came to rest.

However, in the performance it becomes important not so much the opposite of the heroes as the struggle of each with their own loneliness, only the way of this struggle for each of them is different. Such a usual story about a meeting of two lonely people involuntarily forces the audience to try on the situation on the stage to themselves, to their lives.

The director of the play, Olga Rumyantseva, was invited from Moscow, but she is connected not only with her years of study at the Irkutsk Theater School, but also with the theater and the theater company, where she now came as a director. After completing the directing course with Leonid Kheifets in the famous Schukinka, Old Fashioned Comedy became Olga Rumyantseva’s first big work, although she even has experience in creating the Dar theater in which she and her husband, actor Igor Anikin, over eight years, released 16 performances.
