The performance based on the works of Galich returned to the stage of the Repertory Theater

ST. PETERSBURG. The interior theater returned to its repertoire a performance dedicated to the work and fate of the famous bard Alexander Galich. On May 5, the audience will again see the play “Alexander Galich. Return ”, which was the first attempt to show the work of the famous bard on the stage.

This production, having barely appeared on the theater poster, was highly appreciated by the theater public, and participating in the international festival “Terra Incognito”, which took place in 2009, became its laureate. The director of the performance is Nikolai Belyak, the head of the Interior Theater, and on the stage the bard’s work is represented by young actors who were recently students of Nikolai Belyak, their teacher at the Theater Academy of St. Petersburg.

The director himself designated the genre of the play as “Epic in Monologues”, telling about people with mutilated fates living in the era of totalitarianism. The tragic fate of several generations is described in the songs of Alexander Galich. The main character in this dramatic performance is Russian history itself. The performance is addressed not only to people who lived at the same time as the bard, but also to the younger generation.

The name “Return” is not accidentally used in the name of the play. Increasingly, the ghosts of a totalitarian era appear in the life of today’s young generation, who does not want to remain indifferent to what is happening around them.

The director composed a three-part play divided by intermissions. “Characters”, “Fates”, “Problems” - each action is a monologue of actors, illustrated by the songs of Galich, who was forced to leave the country in 1970. In one of his songs, the Poet asked the question: “When will I be back?”. Galich returns, recalling the ghosts of a past era.
