The play "Berdichev" in the theater. Mayakovsky will be the world premiere

MOSCOW. In the Theater. Mayakovsky February 20 premiere of the play, waiting for its appearance on stage for 39 years. Spectators who visited Mayakovka this evening will be the first in the world to see the performance of Berdichev directed by the young director Nikita Kobelev based on a play written in 1975 by Friedrich Gorenstein.

Gorenstein is better known to Russian viewers as a screenwriter, since there were few printed prose works in Russia. The most famous films created according to his scripts are “Solaris”, “The Seventh Bullet” and “Slave of Love”. According to the director of the play, Nikita Kobelev, the idea to undertake the production of this play belongs to Mindaugas Karbauskis, the artistic director of the theater.

The desire to embody the material of the play on the stage arose among many, but it frightened off the complexity of the task - the action of the play takes place in a large time period. All episodes of the play, written by Gorenstein, take place beginning in 1945, and end in 1975. At its core, the play is documentary evidence of that time, especially since the prototypes of its main characters are specific people. The playwright embodied in these women the images of his native aunts. There are real prototypes for other characters.

For staging the play, the text of the play had to be significantly reduced, which was the most difficult task for the director. However, the director managed to solve it, without departing from the plot. A lot of work was done by the acting team. They even had to learn to talk as the inhabitants of Berdichev once said.

Each of the actors lives the life of his hero completely, regardless of how old his character is in this episode. The director is satisfied with the work of the acting ensemble, and the audience’s performance will become known about the reaction after the premiere.
