Tagan artists brought the performance based on Yevtushenko’s poems to the poet’s homeland

IRKUTSK. On the stage of the theater. Okhlopkova, on the evening of September 15-16, poems of Yevgeny Yevtushenko sounded. The legendary Taganka Theater brought to the Irkutsk audience the play “No Years”, left by the director Veniamin Smekhov based on the verses of the famous poet. This production was created on the idea of Yevgeny Yevtushenko himself. The premiere of the performance took place in 2013, in honor of the theater’s birthday - on April 24th.

In May of this year, Evgeny Yevtushenko came to Moscow from America, where he has been living and working since 1991. The poet visited many cities of Russia with creative evenings, however, immediately after arriving in the capital, he visited the Taganka Theater to see the new work of Tagan artists. Evgeny Aleksandrovich extremely warmly responded to the performance.

“No Years” was set by Veniaminov Smekhov in the genre of poetic performance, born within the walls of Taganka. These representations were born with the participation of famous poets, among whom was young Yevgeny Yevtushenko. Based on the poet’s poem of the same name, in 1972 the performance “Under the Skin of the Statue of Liberty” appeared in Taganka’s repertoire.

Some participants of the legendary performance came to Irkutsk as part of the acting team of the play “No Years”. Taganka veterans Tatyana Sidorenko, Anatoly Vasiliev and Alexey Grabbe read poetry to Irkutsk spectators. Veniamin Smekhov, the director and author of the poetic performance, also takes part in the play.

After the performance is shown in Irkutsk, Taganka’s artists will go to the Zima station, where Evgeny Yevtushenko was born in 1932. Winter residents will be able to get acquainted with the work of their famous countryman performed by the actors of the legendary metropolitan theater on September 17, at the Horizon Palace of Culture.
