Successful introduction to new Russian films at goEast festival

VISBADEN. The winner of the annual goEast festival was the movie "Insight" by Alexander Kott.

The goEast festival is held in the capital of the state of Hesse for the 16th year. Filmmakers from countries formerly predominantly part of the socialist camp represent their work on it. Their work is known to the audience to a lesser extent than the achievement of colleagues from across the ocean or states located a little to the west. The search for mutual understanding and rapprochement of cultures of once antagonistic social formations are the main goals of the annual festival. As the German philosopher Martin Heidegger once said, it is hardly possible to count on instant success in solving such problems. The audience of goEast is constantly growing, thereby demonstrating the relevance of such a film forum. Tapes from Russia have repeatedly received awards of the highest dignity. In 2013, a film by Lyubov Arkus, dedicated to the problems of autism, won the main prize in the category "Documentary". A year earlier, the painting “Living” by Vasily Sigarev won. In 2016, the jury singled out several works by Russian directors at once. The best film was recognized as "Insight" directed by Alexander Kott. The picture is about a return to oneself, spiritual insight in a situation when nature deprives the most important of the senses, the beginning of a new life. “Alien Work” by Denis Shabaev, the tragic story of Tajik guest worker Farrukh, who dreams of an acting career, was awarded the special prize of the German Ministry of Internal Affairs. The winner in the “experimental” category was “Unfinished Film” by Evgeny Granilshchikov - an interesting fusion of stage and documentary shots, poetic and innovative.
