In the repertoire of the Omsk Drama Theater, the play by A. Ostrovsky “Truth is Good, but Happiness is Better” reappeared

OMSK. A gift for Omsk theater-goers was the premiere of Ostrovsky’s play “The Truth is Good…” staged by the Moscow director Roman Samgin at the Academic Drama Theater. Omsk viewers are aware of the work of Roman Samgin not only from the series that are broadcast on the central channels. The comedy "The Triumph of Love", delivered by him in the Omsk drama, since 2008, has been delighting theater fans for about five years.

Now in the repertoire of the drama theater there is another directorial work of Roman Savelyevich. This time, the capital’s director turned to the play of Ostrovsky, explaining his choice with love for the playwright, who has the rarest gift to show the life of the characters of his plays in dialogues.

The director was pleased with the audience and the selection of the cast of the acting team. The best actors of the theater take part in the performance, and next to them the students of the Faculty of Arts of Omsk State University, who are also involved in the production of Ostrovsky’s comedy, appear on the stage. One of them, Leonid Kalmykov, the capital’s director entrusted the role of one of the important characters in the play - the truth-seeker Plato. In the role of the main character of the play, the daughter of the merchant Baraboshev Polikseny, the audience saw the young theater actress Julia Poshelyuzhnaya.

Although the director’s reading of the play by Ostrovsky sometimes loses credibility, the speed of the events on the stage combined with the wonderful stage design created by Juliana Laikova gives a feeling of a real holiday. The playwright also dressed the characters in the set.

Parallels with modernity did not go unnoticed. Thanks to the author, who wrote in the play about everything that worries everyone today, the play recalls patriots and bastards, currency fluctuations and even financial fraud. The proverb that became the name of the play has long been the rule of life for many.
