Nordic Shorts - a bright palette of Scandinavian cinema of a new wave

The Nordic Shorts Festival is a rare opportunity to get acquainted with the latest cinema from the Nordic countries. The path to the movies of Danielson and Ayertruck was quite winding. Before studying at the directing department at Valand Academy, the first worked as a firefighter, and the second after graduating from this educational institution received an artist’s diploma. And together they created a successful creative tandem. Their new picture - Because the World Never Stops - is dedicated to the "wrong side" of the news program.

The protagonist of The Date, Jenni Toivoniemi, winner of the jury at the Sundance Festival and one of the awards at the Berlin Film Festival, arranges the personal life of not only her cat, but also her own in 7 minutes of screen time. The Norwegian director Gunhild Enger in the touching and funny A Simpler Life reflects on the fact that technological progress instead of the expected comfort can unexpectedly make life very difficult. The program was decorated with kind and funny animated films “Me and My Moulton” by Norwegian Torill Cove, “Mustache” of the Finnish director Annie Oia. The heroes of the short films “On Your Lips” by Jonas Rutanen, “Coward” by Siri Gutlin, “Our Galaxy is the Milky Way” by Olli Ilpo Salonen are experiencing tipping points in their lives. They grow up, pay for unseemly deeds, find a soul mate, prompting the audience to sincerely empathize with the heroes and rejoice for them.
