Samuel Leroy Jackson was born on December 21, 1948. His mother, Elizabeth, raised her son alone, she worked in a factory to make ends meet. Samuel saw his father only twice in his life. He died at a young age from drunkenness. Soon after that, the mother of the future actor ended up in a clinic for the mentally ill, where she spent the rest of her life.

early years

Little Samuel was handed over to be raised by his mother’s parents. Under their supervision, Sam graduated from high school and entered college at the Faculty of Architecture. There, the active Jackson even organized an amateur theater. Seeing innate talent and diligence, Samuel was transferred to the drama department. But then the life of the novice actor took a hard turn in the other direction.

He attended the funeral of Martin Luther King Jr. It was only natural that, seeing injustice and outright racism, the young man joined the African American rights movement. He even participated in the takeover of the board of his own college. They were not allowed to leave the campus until the anti-racist demands of the protesters were met. As a result, the amendments to the college charter were adopted, but Samuel himself was suspended from his studies for two years.

Career

Jackson still graduated from college, but later followed by small dramatic roles, drunkenness and the use of illegal substances. Many successful roles were missed, the career did not develop. It is not known how it would have ended if it were not for the patronage of Morgan Freeman.

Then there was treatment in a narcological clinic and the role of a former drug addict in the film "Tropical Fever". For her, the actor received the Best Supporting Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival. In 1994, Jackson played one of the best roles in the iconic film Pulp Fiction, for which he was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe.

After that, there were many cinematic roles. The most striking of them in "Jurassic Park", "Time to Kill", "Die Hard 3", the saga "Star Wars". But he received film awards only for supporting roles at the BAFTA awards and the Berlin Film Festival. For the entire period of creativity from the 80s to 2021, the actor managed to take part in the filming of 413 films.

Personal life

But in his personal life, the actor does not have such a great variety as in his work. This is probably what is called happiness. He has been married to Latana for over 40 years. They started dating back in college and are still together. Jackson has one grown daughter.
