Erarta Museum presents the exhibition of the Russian artist Alexei Rouman "Leave the body as a keepsake"

The title of the exhibition, “Leave the body as a keepsake,” refers to the idea of Alexei Rouman that consciousness will move to a new level in the future, and the biological body of a person will become atavism, giving way to a digital body.

In search of a world free of the body, Alexey Rouman explores the key constructs of Russian culture in all its complexity and duality. According to the author, the tendency to retrospection and balancing between east and west become “grounding” factors that do not allow society to move to a fundamentally new level of development. The exhibition of Alexei Ruman becomes, in his confession, "a manifesto of change, of the future of man, of the clash of the Old and New Worlds."

Each artist’s work is a concept in which form and content are one and equal. They complement each other for the sake of revealing the new content of the work.

Alexey Rouman uses extremely laconic, on the verge of minimalism, means of artistic expression. His work can be compared to origami: it is just as complex simplicity. The clash of simple visual images in the work reveals a metaphorical meaning carefully encrypted by the author. Working with stereotypes, established associations and cultural connotations, he calculates the reaction of the viewer and traces his thoughts. The end point of this sometimes winding path is the idea of the artist, embodying the true meaning of the work.

The exhibition of Alexey Ruman “Leave the body as a keepsake” will be open at the Erart Museum from October 11 to December 1, 2019.

About the artist

Alexey Ruman was born on October 19, 1980. He spent his early childhood in the multinational military camp of the former USSR, from where the family moved to Tatarstan. The future artist from childhood showed interest in drawing, graduated from art school, and then received the profession of designer at the Naberezhnye Chelninsky College of Arts.

In the mid-90s, Alexey Ruman became the hero of a documentary from the indigo children’s cycle “From Right to Left”, and in 1999 he took part in the first Delphic Games in Russia.

In the 2000s, Rouman was involved in interior and clothing design. In 2007, he entered the Moscow Textile University. A.N. Kosygin at the Faculty of Applied Arts. Aleksey Ruman’s graduation work - the Halo of ethno clothing collection - was praised by the professional community.

In 2013, Alexey Ruman decided to focus on the creation of works of art. Today his works are in numerous private collections in Russia and Europe. Since 2017, Rouman has been working on the project “Leave the body as a keepsake,” the works of which are presented at the artist’s personal exhibition in the Erarta Museum.
