Gallery EK Artburo presents an exhibition of paintings and graphics by Alena Kirtsova "Watershed".
The exhibition will include ten paintings, several graphic works and one object created in different periods of the author’s work. The earliest work - a geometric abstraction "View of the embankment from the Moskvoretsky bridge at night in early spring" was performed in 1984. Subsequently, after going through the minimalism of the 1990s, which was most vividly revealed in the large-scale series "Travels", Kirtsova again turned to geometrized forms and a complex rich palette. Painting “The White Sea. Watershed "from the" North "series determined the name of the exhibition.
“Big WATER from childhood fascinates, frightens, delays, dreams and takes away. Fills and dissolves whatever it can. It is layered with layers, colors and meanings. FOUNTAINS, on the other hand, is a safe play with thin layers and reflections, ”says the artist. However, for Alena Kirtsova, turning to the topic of the element of water turns out to be just an excuse to plunge into the element of painting. Despite the external similarity with rational abstractionism, her canvases represent a deep and emotional experiment in which the main character is the paint itself. Dense layers of pasty painting applied with a palette knife, subtle combinations of shades or, conversely, an effective soloing of one tone allow the author to achieve incredible expression and convincingness of the image.
“In these works - the general designation of which may be the author’s name“ Watershed ”- there is a natural trace: observation of the color state of an aqueous substance. It is, of course, extremely mediated. Although, perhaps, the real, observed or present in speculation, the watershed sets an impulse, relatively speaking, to color movement and color separation, which Kirtsova carries out on a plane. In this “section” there is a dynamics of multidirectionality and even rejection. But there is also a unifying factor. Behind him - the desire to "build", collect, streamline not only the formation on the plane, but also some moments of their own consciousness ", - writes Alexander Borovsky.
“In the work of Alena Kirtsova there is an associative perception of the real environment: city, interior, landscape. The paths of art here go either towards the aesthetic "game" in a well-coordinated system, or towards the "silence" of large-format canvases. Since no system is completely exhausted, it is open; personal experience means a lot here - it eschews all systems and obligations. Ultimately, it is worth, in general, to say that instinct prevails in Kirtsova’s painting, which creates its own "worlds" and destroys them in order to move forward again… ", art critic Valery Turchin wrote about Kirtsova’s works.
The exhibition "Watershed" will take place in the halls of the recently opened new space of E.K. ArtBureau.
