Lecture of Irina Tolkacheva "Arctic and Antarctic in the history of photography"

December 17 at 4:00 p.m. The Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography invites Irina Tolkacheva to give a lecture on “The Arctic and Antarctic in the History of Photography”. The meeting will take place as part of the educational program for the exhibition "Clean Arctic Sebastian Copeland."

Photographing the Arctic and Antarctic regions has a long history since the 19th century. Going to the shooting of these exotic regions, photographers of the past and present overcome significant difficulties associated primarily with low temperatures. For many years of expeditions towards the North or South Pole, technical rules and standards have been developed, but can we talk about standard stories and cliches and require photographers to overcome them? Why does the photographer go on a trip and freeze in the snow, what pictures he wants to get, what goals does he set for himself? A lecture by art critic Irina Tolkacheva is dedicated to the history and thematic issues of Arctic and Antarctic photography.
