A new exhibition in Kazan presents works created by Rinat Minnebaev in recent years in the author’s technique at the intersection of painting, drawing and photography. The basis of his works is the paper mass of manual casting. Using natural dyes, various methods of influencing the material (artificial craquelure, etc.), the artist achieves amazing effects in his works, creating surfaces resembling various natural forms of the macro- and microworld - space images of desert landscapes, dried beds of seas and rivers, many times enlarged bacteria, amoeba, ciliates, ulcers and diseases of our long-suffering world.
Inspired by the artist on the creation of the presented series "Atlantropa" the futuristic idea of the German engineer Hermann Zergel, put forward as early as the 1920s. In order to get new unlimited sources of electricity, Zergel proposed to close the Strait of Gibraltar and the Dardanelles with hydroelectric dams, which would lead to the drainage of the Mediterranean Sea, the creation of new seas on the territory of Africa, the connection of Europe and Africa into the single continent of the Atlantropus. Scary prospects! How they resemble projects of the late Soviet period in reversing the Siberian rivers! Fortunately, neither the German nor the Soviet projects received support and quietly disappeared. But how many “wise and active heads” continue to dream of grandiose transformations of nature, they reshape countries according to their own understanding, bomb and blow up peaceful cities and villages, forcing huge masses of people to leave their places, lead ruthless prey of natural riches, leaving behind them lifeless spaces...
Against such a thoughtless attitude to Nature, the project of Rinat Minnebaev is turned, in artistic form embodying the terrible consequences that such intervention inevitably leads to, and making you think about caring for the planet on which we live.
