No less important for the history of music is the vocal cycle "To the Distant Beloved" to the words of the doctor and amateur poet Aloiz Yayteles. The cycle also has an addressee: it is dedicated to the philanthropist and admirer of the composer’s music - Franz Josef von Lobkowitz.As the author of the vocal cycle "To the Distant Beloved", Beethoven became the pioneer of the most important genre of romanticism music - a cycle of songs, poetically and musically related to each other. The songs of the cycle "To the Distant Beloved" smoothly merge into one another, thus the composition stands apart from other genre samples divided into numbers and justifies the German name "Liederkreis" (circle, that is, a cycle of songs).
