Chekhov and I.A. Bunin (the main director is Nikita Mikhalkov). The performance received a new name “Madrid” due to a series of inexplicable events that took place at the shows of the same performance under the name “Metamorphoses V: The Witch”.

Mystical circumstances made their changes in the performances. Despite the format of an open rehearsal unusual for theatrical action, which allows the director to “emphasize” the performance in the performance in front of the audience, “The Witch” has repeatedly “tried to disrupt” the complex technical construction of the production: the musical score - the lighting devices “began to live their own lives ”, Video installations and decorations“ changed places, appeared and disappeared ”, the sound changed its tone, props and costumes“ disappeared and were themselves ”.

The artistic director of the Center Nikita Mikhalkov notes: “In addition to the mystical speculations, which are many around this play, it seemed to us that the name“ Witch ”immediately disoriented the viewer. That is, there is a fear that, when buying a ticket for a performance with the same name, he expects something different than what we show him. And I believe that the title of the Bunin story “Madrid” is more correct and neutral, and at the same time, in terms of meaning. ”

In 2020, the Center for Theater and Cinema, led by Nikita Mikhalkov, will continue a series of displays of sold-out productions of Metamorphoses - designer performances born at the junction of two great arts - theater and cinema, filled with colorful video installations and video projections created in the creative workshop of the world-famous artist Yuri Cooper.

The play “Metamorphoses V: Madrid” is based on a kind of literary and stage collage consisting of eight works: “Verochka”, “Three Rubles”, “Clean Monday”, “Summer Residents”, “Familiar Man”, “Nerves”, “Madrid” "," Witch. " The performance is played by graduates of the fifth set of the acting workshop of the Academy of Motion Picture and Theater Arts N. S. Mikhalkov. The first show of the fifth series of “Metamorphoses” took place in June 2019.
