Sketch musical performance based on Pushkin’s works and Tchaikovsky’s opera The Queen of Spades for the Day of Remembrance of the Great Poet.
The creators defined the genre of this production as a musical performance-sketch. This is manifested in the design, costumes, musical adaptation of musical material and in the images of heroes created by leading vocalists and actors of the Petersburg Concert. The opera of PI Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades and the work of the same name by A. S. Pushkin were taken as the basis. The performance is musical, and the directors tried to treat the opera score with the utmost care, preserving the most popular and favorite arias, duets and choral fragments.
In the production, in addition to famous opera characters, another hero acts. This is a Citizen. Either he appears as a storyteller, leading listeners to the tragic events that he witnessed, then he himself takes part in dramatic scenes: in the room at the Countess and Lisa, this is a butler, in the barracks at German’s, he is an orderly, and in the gambling house he is Chekalinsky.
The creators of the play did not try to preserve the “historical truth” in design, costumes and details. All filed in outline. However, in the acting performance they sought sincerity of feelings and the severity of experiences. The performance turned out to be dynamic, captivating the audience from the first minutes. The combination of opera music, prosaic and poetic texts makes the performance “democratic”, designed not only for opera lovers, but also for the widest audience.
