Hermitage Day celebrated with 3D-mapping performance

A multimedia 3D-mapping performance in honor of Hermitage Day will be given on Palace Square on December 7th. This time, St. Petersburg residents and city guests will find the magical “Mystery of Light” - an easy walk through the museum, full of wonderful discoveries and admiration for the aesthetics of elegant and festive little things.

The first public celebrations on the occasion of the Hermitage Day were held in December 2014: for one evening, in honor of the 250th anniversary of the legendary museum, the facade of the General Staff building turned into a screen for a three-dimensional performance dedicated to the most significant episodes of Russian history, of which the Hermitage was a witness and participant.

The experiment on introducing 3D-mapping technologies into the aesthetics of mass cultural events turned out to be so successful that it was time to think about the formation of a new urban tradition.

And on December 7, 2016, an unusual Hermitage gift awaits again at the Palace Square of Petersburgers and city guests - illusions of fantastic transformations, a play of light with a cultural, architectural and historical space. This time a 3D projection will be presented on the facade of the Winter Palace. However, there will be no dramatic stories. Viewers will be offered to stroll through the halls and out of many trifles - decor elements, ornaments, quotes from the exhibits - re-lay the mosaic of beauty. It will be a story full of rich colors, endless miracles and the delight of meeting with the endless diversity of creative genius.

Attentive viewers will be able to peer not only at the details of luxurious interiors: the most complex facade elements of the Winter Palace will be involved in the multimedia designer of art illusions. Their pretentiousness and luxury will give the footage a special solemnity and Baroque magic.

The musical score of the 3D performance is woven from fragments of the works of Sergei Prokofiev, Maurice Ravel, Alfred Schnittke, Dmitry Shostakovich, Aram Khachaturian.

The development of the concept and scenario of a 3D-mapping video performance, the creation of audio content, as well as the production of the project are provided by the creative team of the DANCE OPEN festival, led by stage director Ekaterina Galanova. For more than ten years, this team has been successfully implementing concerts and celebrations of international level.

The creation of graphics for the 3D performance is carried out by the Cosmo AV art bureau (France), a recognized leader in the field of large-format video projections for world-class shows. The agency’s international projects are implemented under the leadership of creative directors Pierre-Yves Tulo and Jose Cristiani.

More recently, on November 4 and 5, as part of the Festival of Light, DANCE OPEN and Cosmo AV presented a joint 3D-mapping project “Space Between Heaven and Neva” to Petersburgers and city guests on the facade of the Mariinsky Palace. However, the first acquaintance of Petersburgers with creative partnership took place precisely at the 250th anniversary of the museum, when the aforementioned 3D-mapping performance “Hermitage. Ball of History. "

The Hermitage was and remains the abode of muses and the temple of faith in human genius. And let every walk through its halls turn into a wonderful ritual of renouncing everyday life, purifying the soul and touching the light.

On December 7, 2016, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., 3D-mapping sessions of the play “The Mystery of Light” will be broadcast every 10 minutes. The duration of the session is 7 minutes. Free admission.

The State Hermitage Museum announced December 7, Hermitage Day, as an additional free day for all categories of individual visitors. In addition, on this day the museum will extend its work until 22.00!
