On February 12, 1924, an event took place in New York, the true meaning of which was hardly understood by contemporaries. Accompanied by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra, “Rhapsody in the Blues Style” was performed. The piano was performed by George Gershwin. Actually, it was an experiment. Conductor Paul Whiteman ordered a young aspiring musician a piece combining jazz and classical traditions. It was only supposed to take a look - what will the new style look like? Who could know that Gershwin is a genius? What style of "Rhapsody in the blues style" will determine one of the most important and interesting directions in the history of music? What will be next opera Porgy and Bess… And Leonard Bernstein will write his West Side Story…
