State Museum of Architecture named after A.V. Shchuseva presents the exhibition project "The Age of Art Nouveau", which will be the first attempt to formulate an opinion about a possible permanent exhibition in a long time. The museum was forced to close it in 1991, when the exhibits were urgently transported from the Donskoy Monastery to the building on Vozdvizhenka.
The Art Nouveau era is a complex, controversial and saturated with unusual creative decisions period of development of Russian art. The Museum of Architecture has a rich collection of objects created at the turn of the XIX - XX centuries.
A real panorama of the many-sided Art Nouveau style will unfold before visitors, which will allow us to trace its evolution from the middle of the 19th century to the 1917 revolution. The first section, devoted to the previous period of eclecticism, will show the drawings and drawings of the GUM, the Moscow City Duma, as well as the author’s mock-up of the construction of the dome of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, architect Konstantin Ton. The artistic component will be supplemented by a story about the features of engineering structures and building materials that were widely used in the construction of buildings from the end of the last century. The main part of the exhibition will be devoted to the variety of types of structures of the Art Nouveau era - urban mansions and apartment buildings, commercial buildings, banks, museums, theaters and temple architecture. Today it is impossible to imagine Moscow without the building of the Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin and the Mur and Meriliz store - the current Central Department Store, the mansions of Derozhinsky and Morozov, Kazan and Yaroslavsky stations.
The works of such eminent architects as Fedor Shekhtel, the Vesnin brothers, Valentin Dubovskaya, Illarion Ivanov-Shchits, Roman Klein and many others will present the Moscow architectural school of this time in its entirety and diversity. In addition to the works of domestic architects, visitors will also be able to get acquainted with the work of the French master Art Nouveau Hector Guimard.
The project "The Age of Art Nouveau" Museum opens a public discussion about how it should look and what functions should take on a museum of architecture in the modern world.
A large-scale cultural and educational program awaits visitors: walking tours in Moscow, lectures, excursions, creative classes for a family audience, music concerts and theater performances.
